Dr James Chesterman

James graduated from the University of Birmingham with a Clinical Distinction in 2011. Following this, he completed a year in NHS general dental practice in Nottingham and two years in hospital training posts in Maxillofacial surgery and Restorative Dentistry at the Leeds Teaching Hospitals. During this time, he was awarded the Membership of the Joint Dental Faculties (Royal College of Surgeons, England).
In 2015 James successfully enrolled on a 5-year specialist training program in Restorative Dentistry at the Leeds Dental Institute. Restorative dentistry includes management of complex dental problems involving prosthodontics, periodontics and endodontics. There is a focus on treating patients with complex dental problems such as trauma, hypodontia, developmental conditions, toothwear and dental implants. During training James completed specialist examinations in both restorative dentistry and periodontics with the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh. Following training James was awarded specialist registration with the General Dental Council, UK in both specialisms.
James has completed a research masters in digital dentistry and was awarded a distinction in 2018. James was also awarded a competitive Clinical Fellowship by the British Society of Periodontology to complete further training at the University of Bern, Switzerland.
In 2020, James was appointed as a Consultant in Restorative Dentistry at the Leeds Dental Institute and is the clinical lead for the periodontal services. His areas of interest include periodontal surgery, dental implants and rehabilitation for patients with trauma and toothwear. James continues to contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in Periodontics, toothwear and implant dentistry. He has published numerous articles and presented at national meetings. In addition, he has sat on the councils for the Speciality Registrars in Restorative Dentistry Group and the British Society of Restorative Dentistry.
James now works in two private practices (Church View Dental Care and Honesty Dental Care at the Oaks) . He accepts referrals for periodontal disease, recession management, dental implants, implant overdentures, surgical crown lengthening, surgical endodontics. At Churchview Dental Care James also accepts referrals for root canal treatment.
Outside of dentistry James enjoys running, playing squash, hiking and travelling with his wife Katie.
