Dr James Chesterman

BDS, MFDS RCS, MSc, MPerio RCSEd, FDS (Rest Dent) RCSEd

James graduated from the University of Birmingham with a Clinical Distinction in 2011. Following this, he completed a year in NHS general dental practice in Nottingham and two years in hospital training posts in Maxillofacial surgery and Restorative Dentistry at the Leeds Teaching Hospitals. During this time, he was awarded the Membership of the Joint Dental Faculties (Royal College of Surgeons, England).

In 2015 James successfully enrolled on a 5-year specialist training program in Restorative Dentistry at the Leeds Dental Institute. As part of training James completed a research masters in digital dentistry and was awarded a distinction in 2018. James was also awarded a competitive Clinical Fellowship by the British Society of Periodontology to complete further training at the University of Bern, Switzerland.

In 2020, James was appointed as a Consultant in Restorative Dentistry at the Leeds Dental Institute and is the clinical lead for the periodontal services. His areas of interest include periodontal surgery, dental implants and rehabilitation for patients with toothwear and trauma. James continues to contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in Periodontics, toothwear and implant dentistry. He has published numerous articles and presented at national meetings. In addition, he has sat on the councils for the Speciality Registrars in Restorative Dentistry Group and the British Society of Restorative Dentistry.

Outside of dentistry James enjoys running, playing squash, hiking and travelling with his wife Katie.

• 2022 – 4 day – Aesthetic challenges of replacing multiple missing teeth in the maxilla in the digital era. ITI education week, Melbourne, Australia.
